100 views of…

‘One Hundred Famous Views of Edo’

(Woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige) was the inspiration for the series and title of this show.

From fragments of memories depicting European landscapes, the work evolved through experimentation with stone paper, into two hundred abstractions.

The medium triggered memories for the artist; late night experimentation with lithographic stone and other water-based mediums - ink, watercolours, and acrylic.

Presented landscapes reflect reality and the artist's dispute with the surrounding world: Brexit and its consequences, the social denial of the Covid-19 pandemic and the most recent and personally most painful events of the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The work reflects a torn reality, a place in the unconscious mind where memories exist as washes and shadows; an undefinable horizon where reality and the artist inevitably meet.

"100 views of..." is a visual anthology presented in two dimensions. A window into the consciousness of the artist as she is now, by reminiscing emotions and experiences that have shaped her.
